Hello...
My name is
Slim Boy Alex
I was born in Baltimore, Maryland, and I have resided in New Port Richey, Florida since 2002.
I started playing the guitar at age nine.
I love to be a fun entertainer, who showcases original music and cover songs along with a bit of comedy in-between songs. I encourages the crowd to sing-a-long and
dance during my three hour show.
I use a Boss RC 300 Loop pedal that allows me to lay down tracks one at a time and then the tracks come together to give a full rich sound, incorporating my guitar and backing vocals. No pre-recordings or Karaoke, just three hours of live music.

Slim Boy Alex Takes on America’s Got Talent
Published on 19 December 2014
New Port Richey's own, 23-year-old Slim Boy Alex, has been playing guitar and singing around town since the age of 14, so a lot of folks in the area have had a chance to watch him perform, but what you may not know is that he was called back for a second audition with the hit NBC show America's Got Talent and he still has a shot at being chosen for the show’s tenth season. Producers from America’s Got Talent were in Tampa holding auditions on November 2, 2014.
“There were thousands of people there and the entire atmosphere was electrifying,” shares Allen Markow, who is Alex’s father. Slim Boy Alex had a "scheduled" time of 9 a.m. He got there at 6:45 a.m. and the line to get into the convention center went around the building then looped back and forth like waiting for the latest Disney World ride. He didn’t even get into the building until after 9 a.m. After filling out a ton of paperwork and signing his life away, Slim Boy Alex said, “Then the fun began!”
Slim Boy Alex is waiting to hear back from the producers of the NBC hit show America’s Got Talent to see if he will be chosen to compete
A different world unfolded at the audition! The “holding area” was a large room with chairs, lights, and cameras on long boom poles and a lot of talented people running around. The center stage area was a hub of action, where all day long acts were getting up and performing. At times there would be five different jugglers, or six people trying to sing different things at the same time.
“There were times when they were filming and we all had to go crazy,” says Slim Boy Alex. “So, for the next eight hours, I waited for my number to come up. They took 50 people at a time down out for the auditions. Around 5 p.m., my number was called. I went into a smaller room and there were two judges. I only had 90 seconds and I had rehearsed a song called Flagpole Sitta by Harvey Danger. The reaction was immediate and positive. I was told to wait outside the room. I waited about an hour and saw everyone else have their audition and leave. I was then asked to come to another room for a second audition. I was ready with a song by Jim Croce, Don’t Mess Around with Jim. On the second round, the judges were very happy and one said, ‘There is something about you that I cannot keep my eyes off of.’ Then by 11 p.m. that night I was able to go home. It was a long day but a good one.”
Slim Boy Alex has lived in New Port Richey since the age of 11. Originally from Maryland, he took up guitar around the age of 9. His dad Allen says, “When most kids were playing video games, he would spend that time playing guitar. This was before YouTube when you had to work hard figuring out songs and having patience was key.” Allen says that singing has been great for his son. Slim Boy Alex loves to perform and bring the house down, but singing has been helpful to him personally, too. Allen says, “He stutters at times when he speaks but he sings many songs that have a lot of words in them. Playing music and singing has helped his stuttering improve a lot over the years.”
A lot of people in our area already know that Slim Boy Alex has talent because they’ve seen him growing up playing music and singing. When Insomniacs on US 19 was just a tea and coffee house Slim Boy Alex would go there every Tuesday evening and practice in front of a live audience. Now Insomniacs is a bar and you can still catch him playing there every now and then.
Other places around town where Slim Boy Alex plays at times are The Crab Shack, Fisherman Shack, Sims Park, Clearwater Beach Sunset Festival and many more. “Like” Slim Boy Alex on Facebook for updates on America’s Got Talent.
